I would like to express my satisfaction with the performance of the two GridEdge Networks PLC based transfer trip systems we installed last year on our electric distribution system, each in support of two separate distribution generation interconnection projects in Lunenburg. I would also like to express my appreciation of the professional work that the GridEdge team demonstrated in commissioning these systems and putting them into service. Both systems have been running well since they were put in service. During the design stage of both of these projects, we looked at other alternatives and chose GridEdge permissive PLC technology for these transfer trip applications due to its cost and implementation advantages over traditional point-to-point communications options that would have needed to be installed at multiple individual device locations on our distribution circuits, and also due to the avoided ongoing monthly charges of leased land-line or cellular service alternatives. Recognizing these benefits of the GridEdge solution, we will consider using GridEdge technology in other projects.

Ingenco has experienced many lost electrical generation hours as a result of being forced to use audio protective relaying equipment by our Utility. This equipment prevents our generation plant from generating into a fault condition. However, it uses very unreliable analog telecommunication circuits (leased lines). Throughout the years, Ingenco has investigated many solutions to this problem, but none were acceptable to the Utility for one reason or another until we found GridEdge. Ingenco was able to convince the Utility to let us do a pilot project using GridEdge technology at our Charles City Plant. Construction began on October 2015 and finished on December 2015. This was the Utility’s first ever 34.5kV GridEdge installation. By August 2016 we had all the details worked out and optimized. The system has been running great ever since. Because of the successful pilot project at our Charles City plant, we have been able to install GridEdge technology at 2 more of our sites. Our Brunswick plant has been running with GridEdge protection since July 2016, and our King and Queen site since November 2016. It was a pleasure working with Nachum and his team. We look forward to working with him on future projects and upgrades.

I would like to express my full satisfaction with the GridEdge distributed generation transfer trip protection product, and the professional work that your team has demonstrated in commissioning the system and putting it in service. The system was installed this year at our 3MW solar PV facility in Reidsville, Georgia and has been providing anti-islanding protection at the point of interconnection with the utility grid. We chose the GridEdge PLC technology and recommended it to Georgia Power, the integrating utility. The decision was primarily based on the cost advantages of the GridEdge system compared to fiber and leased phone line solutions. Recognizing the cost benefits of the GridEdge solution we will consider using the GridEdge technology in other project locations.

We have had very mixed results with telecom-based DTT on other projects, and feel that it is appropriate to consider adequate alternatives. The GridEdge system has been installed at one of our Massachusetts facilities and has proven to be a superior solution for point to point fast tripping. The initial cost burden on the customer is much less, and the system enjoys increased production and revenue while not experiencing the intermittent nuisance tripping outages associated with telecom-based systems.
